Javier Falcón — Photographer in Lima, Peru

Javier Falcón is a photographer and audiovisual director. His work reaches print and screen as editorial pages, campaigns and commercials, album covers, music videos, and documentary — made with brands and with artists across disciplines, turning what they imagine into images. He works from Lima, Peru, for publications and clients across Latin America, the United States, and Europe.

His work has been published in Vogue México y Latinoamérica, Elle US, GQ Latinoamérica, L'Officiel Paris, Madame Figaro España, Condé Nast Traveller, The Guardian, and Maison Ë, among other publications. He has photographed or directed video for Nike, Puma, Converse, Nikon, Maiyet, Falabella, Ripley, Oechsle, Belcorp, Larcomar, Marathon, Bioderma, Belmond, Kulm Hotel, and Dräger.

Amaru, the Peruvian restaurant of the Kulm — the St. Moritz grand hotel where winter tourism was born — began for him with a name: he proposed Amaru, the two-headed serpent of Inca myth, and from that name came the commission to direct the restaurant's brand identity and to make the photographs and films that built its first visual world.

He was director, cinematographer, and still photographer on Orilla Negra, a documentary made with artist Lizeth Lozano Palomino on the 2022 oil spill that struck Ancón and the coast north of Lima — one of the worst ecological disasters in Peru's history. The project won first prize at Art Partner's #CreateCOP27 and has since been shown internationally, including at the United Nations, Photo London, and the Vatican's Borgo Laudato Si'.

For Assouline he contributed to Peru: An Odyssey Across a Time-Honored Land, the Legendary Destinations volume produced with Belmond to mark the company's twenty-five years in the country. He also photographed Hecho en Perú, the 2017 book published by the Faculty of Art and Design at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, documenting its exhibition of Peruvian fashion and textile design. His work appears in Proud South, the survey of photography, fashion, and art from the global south published by Lecturis in 2022.

He began his career as a photography assistant, working with Mario Testino, Ruven Afanador, and other leading photographers and directors. With Testino he assisted on the September issues of American Vogue shot in Peru — El Dorado with Stella Tennant in Lima (2012) and the Peruvian Paso horses series with Karlie Kloss in Mamacona (2014) — on the books Fina Estampa (MATE, 2018) and Pasito a paso (MATE, 2019), and on part of the Peru work for the series A Beautiful World, among other projects.

He studied Audiovisual Communication at the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú.
